Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long are sessions?
A:  Therapy sessions last 50 minutes.  For an initial session, I recommend arriving about 20 minutes early to fill out necessary paperwork.

Q: Is therapy right for me?
A: Psychotherapy and counseling have been proven to be helpful in treating a wide range of issues.  People come to counseling with a variety of different goals- more satisfying relationships, better anxiety management, feeling happier or more at peace, improved self-esteem- the list goes on.  Many people also come to counseling unsure as to what their goals might be- that is okay, too.  If you have a desire to grow, change, or simply learn a little more about yourself or your relationships, therapy can be a powerful and life-changing tool for that process.

Q: If I am in individual therapy, can my spouse, partner, or parent join me for a session?
A:  In some situations, it can be very helpful to include a spouse, partner, or family member in a session.  However, some people prefer to keep the therapy room a separate space just for them, and that is completely okay, too.

Q: What is couples therapy like?  Am I going to get told I’m a bad partner?
A:  Many people have concerns and misconceptions about what couples therapy looks like.  Couples therapy is not about finding out who is at fault.  Rather, couples therapy is about creating a safe space to explore what is and is not working, and to work toward solutions that benefit the entire family system.
